Context
An international nonprofit focused on girls’ career development in STEM partnered with my previous company to create animated video content challenging gender stereotypes in technology fields. As Content Manager, I coordinated production of a video series showcasing IT career paths through storytelling featuring fictional characters who studied, worked, and succeeded in male-dominated tech fields. Each video answered practical questions about entering these careers and demonstrated achievable pathways for young women. Over a 3-month collaboration in Q2-Q3 2023, I managed the complete production cycle, coordinating between the nonprofit stakeholder and my freelance production team while developing narratives, ensuring message alignment, and delivering quality content on schedule.
Methodology
I implemented a phased production workflow with stakeholder validation gates: script development and approval, voice recording with quality review, and motion design with final client sign-off. This structured approach with checkpoint client’s approvals ensured the nonprofit’s mission and messaging remained central throughout production. I coordinated the distributed freelance team using Trello with Kanban methodology for visual task tracking, Google Docs for collaborative scriptwriting, and email/WhatsApp for ongoing communication and project updates.
Process
Production began with scoping meetings between my manager, the nonprofit client, and myself to establish content objectives and narrative direction. After topic validation, I received assignments and began developing storylines aligned with the nonprofit’s mission of inspiring girls to pursue STEM careers.
I crafted scripts featuring relatable fictional characters navigating IT education and career journeys, then submitted drafts to the client for review. Once approved, I coordinated with the voiceover artist for recording sessions. After receiving audio files, I performed quality assurance reviews checking for pronunciation errors, pacing issues, or needed corrections before routing to the client for approval.
With validated scripts and voiceover recordings, I briefed the motion designer with creative direction and provided all production assets. The designer developed animated videos, which I reviewed internally for quality and message consistency before client presentation. After final client approval, I delivered completed videos.
I maintained continuous communication with my freelance team throughout production, monitoring progress, addressing resource needs, managing timeline expectations, and resolving any production challenges. Trello served as the central hub for tracking deliverables, deadlines, and handoffs between production phases, ensuring on-time delivery and smooth workflow transitions.
